If you have a gnat infestation in your home, you will probably wonder how to get rid of gnats in your house. Gnats are an annoying type of flying insect that are commonly known as fruit flies. Although they have an extremely small life span of about four months, there are ways to get rid of them before they die naturally.
Items needed:
- Compost
- Insect fogger
- Insecticidal soap
- Glass jar
- Vinegar
- Remove rotten food. Gnats thrive on rotten food, so you will want to remove it from your house. This will remove at least some of the gnats in the process. Take out your trash before it rots too badly, and empty out a compost of fruits and vegetable matter if you live in a house.
- Spray an insect fogger insecticidal soap. If you don't have any pets that can be affected, spray an insect fogger poison throughout your house. Another option is to spray insecticidal soap, which is better for the environment and more pet-friendly because it is natural.
- Trap them. Fill a jar nearly to the top with vinegar. Punch tiny holes in the lid and secure it to the jar. Gnats will enter the jar via the lid but will not be able to escape. You can then put the jar outdoors and remove the lid to release the insects. This is a good, friendly way of removing gnats from your house.
- Eliminate damp corners. Gnats like moist, damp corners and crevices in the house in which to lay their eggs. Make sure to dry any such areas in your house to eliminate gnats.
